Shining Eyes – Children blossom out

This development project aims to provide a holistic health development for Santal children. Dr. Monika Golembiewski, a German pediatrician, has been coming to Bolpur since 1994 to give medical care and awareness to the rural Santal children and women.

Initiated by the German writer Dr. Martin Kämpchen, this medical work has been steadily expanding within the recent years. In 2011, a children hospital has been inaugurated. Nutrition programmes for malnourished children and pregnant women were introduced together with Monika’s son Nico and daughter-in-law Silvi. Vegetable plantation and sanitation projects as well as a continuous mother and village health worker trainings further contribute to a holistic health development.

Shining Eyes is based on two project pillars:

  • Children hospital with TB diagnostic and delivery ward at Bolpur
  • Preventive health projects in the surrounding Santal villages
